Patriots Match Longest Winning Streak From Brady Era with Triumph Against New York Jets
Rookie Henderson has scored five scores in the present year
New England equaled their top unbeaten stretch since the Tom Brady era as they defeated AFC East opponents the Jets 27-14 in professional football
First-year standout Henderson was the standout with three scores as the New England squad secured an eight-game winning streak for the first time since legendary quarterback Brady's final season with the franchise in the 2019 season
Signal-caller Maye threw for 281 passing yards and a score, completing 25 of 34 passes
The win bolsters the New England's advantage at the summit of the AFC East as they improved to nine wins and two defeats, with the Jets bottom after dropping to a 2-8 mark
The visitors had scored first at Foxborough with quarterback Justin Fields running in a five-yard TD to conclude the Jets' initial series
But the Patriots responded in the second quarter as Henderson rushed for two seven-yard touchdowns before the running back grabbed a reception from Drake Maye at the rear of the endzone midway through the third quarter to push the score to 21 to 7
"It was a key occasion for him delivering, and it's been fantastic for him to keep getting these reps," the quarterback said of the rookie. "He wants to be great."
Justin Fields threw to John Metchie late in the third period to narrow the deficit for the visitors but Andy Borregales kicked a pair of field goals in the final period as the Patriots closed out the victory
